AV How-To
Lending a helping hand
So you want one of these newfangled "podcast" things, but you don't totally know how? Sit back, relax; The AV Club is here to help you.

Don't know what a podcast is? Don't worry... You're far from alone! No, you don't have to own an iPod, its just a name for a bunch of videos that you can sign up to automatically download as soon as new ones are posted, so you can watch them whenever and wherever you want. Sweet huh?

What do you need to get one of these podcast things?

First you need something to get the videos for you. These are called "podcatchers" by most people. You can either download software or use a web based podcatcher. Try iTunes, Miro Player, Odeo, iPodder, or whatever else your whimsy leads you to. So now you have a podcatcher, how the heck do you get the videos?

The easiest way is to go back to the subscribe page you were on before this one (hit your browser's back button) and click on the icon of the podcatcher you are using. We do a lot of the heavy lifting for you on that one, but if for some reason it doesn't work, there are still options. Copy and paste the URL in the box on that subscribe page and enter it into you podcatcher of choice as a new subscription. Here is how three of them do it:

Click the "Advanced" menu, then "Subscribe to Podcast". Paste the URL from our subscribe page and hit "OK". Now in your "Podcasts" tab in iTunes you will see your new subscription, which should automatically start downloading the latest video. To watch an episode, just double click it!

Click the "Channels" menu, then "Add Channel". Paste the URL from our subscribe page and hit "OK". The videos will download to the channel you just added, which you can find on the left side.

Click the "Add Channel" button, paste the URL from our subscribe page and hit "OK". The videos will download to the channel you just added, which you can find on the left side.

Every service is different, but the basic principle is the same- a podcast is like a channel, the address for which is all you need to have our latest videos sent to you automatically as they are released. If you are still confused or you just want to tell us something, please drop us a line.
